Hello!

"Everybody is a genius. But if you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree, it will live its whole life believing that it is stupid."- Albert Einstein.

To me, this quote speaks on appreciating your individual skill set. My goal is to help students both inside and outside of the classroom to realize their full potential. I hope to feed students curiosity in Math.

As a recent graduate of the Honours Life Sciences program, and a future Brock University Teacher candidate, I believe I possess the transferable skills to become a great leader in the Education industry.

2- Fractions

Hello and Welcome Back! This week we will be discussing weeks 4 and 5 in math class!  In week four we began by talking about fractions. As usual we started by outlining the specific and overall expectations related to fractions as outline by the Ontario Curriculum. One way in which we represented fractions was through using chocolate as a manipulative( yum! ). In groups, we got to represent fractions with 12 pieces of single chocolate squares. As you can see in figure 1, these are some of the examples of how to create fractions with chocolate squares. Not only was this activity collaborative, but it was engaging and delicious! We then did another activity with Dominos to represent different manipulatives. Furthermore, my classmate Tyler did his learning activity presentation to our table group. Geometry and Measurements

This week we will discuss weeks 8 and 9 GEOMETRY AND SPATIAL SENSE  In week 8 we discuss geometry and spatial sense. It was a great way to refresh skills that I have not used in a while. Our learning activity presentation was done by my classmate Lilliana. She cut out plastic straws to use as manipulatives. Each straw was a different measurements, we used the straws to model different types of triangles. We where to construct scalene, isosceles and equilateral triangles. This was a great activity because it allowed us to use manipulatives to visually see the differences in triangles. We also used connecting sticks to model triangles. Each stick had a different size. Our teacher challenged us to try to create a triangle which had two side lengths that could not touch. As seen in the image.  After our learning presentation we began our lesson. 3- Ratio's and Proportions

In this blog post week will be discussing week 6 and 7. Ratios and Proportions!  After reviewing the overall and specific expectations, we began to solve problems related to ratios and proportions. We solved problems involving money/cost, food/weight, internet/rate - these where all real world examples. This modelled the importance of Teaching through Problem Solving.         My classmate Rae did her learning presentation on Ratios and   Proportion related to baking. Her activity was problem solving based, we got to collaborate with a partner to answer a series of questions. This activity was very fun because we where able to apply proportional skills to a relatable experience, which was baking.   In week 6 our Game for our Forum post was called Decention .
